Love Locks.
(2011) Zinc, steel, brass, wood.

Love locks, four positions (2011) reimagines an urban tradition where lovers lock padlocks onto fences, bridges, stanchions and public monuments, and then throw away the key as a symbol of their devotion to one another. Love locks here shows four different articulations of this same demonstration: one where lock and chain remain open, one where lock is open but chain is closed, one where chain is closed but lock is open and a final articulation where both chain and lock are closed. This set of objects and positions suggests multiple ways of arranging relationships. This work is dedicated to the research of art historian Cynthia Hammond, who brought the love locks phenomenon to my attention.
